Meeting on Gujarat Carnage and Women
New Delhi on Friday, July 26, 2002

Dear friends,

As you know that Gujarat carnage of killing innocent people after Godhra incident on 27th February, 2002 tells the sad story of independent India. The indiscriminate killing of innocent Muslims have no parallel in our contemporary history. It was a deliberate attempt to liquidate and deprive Muslim communities of their social and economic well being. The worst of these killings is the killing of women, even pregnant women were not spared. There are no words to describe Gujarat hatred campaign against minorities and other deprived sections of society.

In this scenario several groups visited Gujarat and they have given their impartial reports. Indian Social Institute also sent two-member-team to the State and the report is ready. The scope of our report is limited only on women. In our report we have tried to dig out how the women in Gujarat see their future.

We, therefore, feel that NGOs and concerned citizens should take part actively to understand and appreciate the work of those who have personally participated and submitted their reports to their organizations.

We hope you may find some time to participate in the discussion to be organized by the Institute on Friday 26th July 2002 from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. A line of confirmation is very much appreciated.

Looking forward for your active participation in the above said discussion.

Thanking you,

Yours sincerely,
